The Sisters of Mary...

“Our strength to serve and to love others comes from the Holy Eucharist.” -Venerable Aloysius Schwartz-

Let us serve the Lord with joy!

This passage from the Psalms is the motto of the Sisters of Mary.

Our congregation, the Sisters of Mary, was founded by Venerable Aloysius Schwartz on August 15, 1964, in South Korea, in order to serve the poorest of the poor in the name of Christ. We are “contemplatives in action”; that is, we strive to unite the vocations of Martha and Mary. Our active life of service to the poor is balanced by three hours of daily prayer and contemplation. With the inspiration of the Virgin of the Poor, our Lady of Banneux, who said, “I come to relieve suffering,” we have established charity boarding schools to gratuitously provide food, clothing, shelter, academic and technical education, catechetical and spiritual formation to orphans and the poorest of the poor children; charity hospitals, clinics, day-care centers and hospices for the homeless elderly and single parents. At present, we care for and educate tens of thousands of needy people in Korea, the Philippines, Mexico, Guatemala, Brazil, Honduras, and Tanzania.

The material and spiritual needs of our people continue to increase, thus there is an urgent need for more generous and dedicated young ladies to join us in this beautiful vocation of serving the Lord through our less privileged brethren with joy!

Candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 35; have a high school or college education; be in good health; and above all, have a sincere desire to serve the poor with the heart, mind, and spirit of Christ.
